Athena Temple in Side Restored After Centuries
In a significant cultural restoration effort, the Athena Temple in Side, Antalya, has been revitalized after centuries. Located adjacent to the renowned Apollo Temple, the Athena Temple, dating back to the 7th century BCE, has undergone extensive restoration led by the Antalya Directorate of Surveying and Monuments. The project, initiated in 2023, focused on reassembling 20 of the temple’s ancient columns using steel reinforcements to ensure structural stability. Previously, only one column stood, lacking its capital. With the restoration nearing completion, the temple now stands as a testament to the region’s rich historical heritage.
This restoration not only enhances the archaeological landscape of Side but also contributes to the area’s appeal as a year-round tourist destination. The revitalized temple offers visitors a glimpse into the ancient city’s grandeur, further solidifying Side’s position on Turkey’s cultural tourism map.
